I spent most of my life on the heavier side. I grew up in the era of latch key kids, processed meals, and glorified convenience. Sports were not on my radar and fitness wasn't something kids thought about in the 80s. I think when you start heavy it's hard to find the motivation to get active. Combine that with being called Thunder Thighs and other names that mocked my curvier build and it's no surprise I spent most of my life ashamed of my body. As an adult, like many women, my children became my priority. There were bouts of exercise, various memberships, and a range of diets, but nothing lasting. It wasn't until I had 3 kids and 3 decades under my belt, that I finally got tired of being sick and tired. I wanted to feel good, both physically and mentally, and I wanted to keep up with my kids. Not just watch them from the sidelines.
The first goal I ever set was to not allow myself to sit on the couch all day. Amazing how that first step changed my life. A few months later, a trip to the gym to learn how to box turned into a year spent training with a MMA group. After a 30 pound loss and a renewed confidence for life, I started volunteering my time to lead women's classes. I've always had a passion for helping others and teaching revealed a knack for helping those who have reached the same breaking point that I had. I went back to school and got my AS in Fitness Management, including focuses on Sports Management and Health.
I purchased ADIO Fitness in January 2015. In January 2016 we celebrated our 1-Year Anniversary with a Grand Re-Opening under our new name, BOM Fitness & Wellness Coaching. BOM's namesake is my three children Brandon, Olivia, and Megan. My children keep me running all hours of the day and drive me crazy half the time, but they are the most important reasons I have to stay healthy and live better.
Life doesn't always go as planned. We get busy. We get tired. We hit road bumps. We find a hundred other things to consume our time other than our own well-being. Here we are 9 years later and I'm still working on my goals. Choosing a healthy lifestyle is a journey and a process. It is never short-term and there are rarely quick fixes. In my journey I have learned a lot about balance, about maintaining wellness in all 7 dimensions, and about keeping my goals relative. These are all things I hope to share with my community to help everyone, from preschool to retirement, live healthier, happier lives.
Pre-diabetic. Fighting depression. Always tired. Legs felt like lead weights tied to my body. Self-conscious, became a home-body. Watching life from the sidelines.
Healthy heart & mind. Have the energy & ability to keep up with my kids (most days). Found the strength and courage to pursue life at full force. Comfortable & confident in social settings. Loving the journey I'm on!
